CLÍODHNA
CLÍODHNA, a woman in her early twenties, lives in a remote, Irish-speaking coastal region in the west of Ireland. As a housing crisis forces her to consider emigration, she faces the broader generational struggles of her community — declining language and culture, alongside a lack of opportunities for young people. She reflects on the world around her, the impact of her decision and the relationship she has with a threatened language, reckoning with loss, feelings of alienation and an uncertain future.
As she grapples with leaving, she becomes entwined with the unseen mystical world around her, revealing a deeper connection to the world around her, underlining her her place within the wider world around her. The film explores the deep ties between language, identity and nature, and asks: when a language dies, what part of us dies with it?
